Want To Hire Movers? Keep Costs Down By Preparing For The Move

by Adam Johnson

When you hire a moving company, you should expect to spend more than you would if you were to do everything on your own. But, you still have plenty of opportunities for keeping your costs down while hiring movers to handle part of the move that you would rather avoid.

If you do not want to drive a long distance in a moving truck to your new home, you may be determined to hire a moving company to handle this responsibility. If you want to minimize your total costs, you should work on preparations to minimize how much work movers must handle.

Disassembly

An important task to work on is the disassembly of your furniture. Putting assembled furniture into a moving truck will take up a lot more room than if you were to disassemble everything. By doing this on your own, you will not have to worry about paying the labor for movers to do it all.

Whether you live in a large home or a multistory one, you may have furniture all around the house that must be loaded into a moving truck. Once you disassemble a piece, you may feel confident enough to bring the pieces closer to the front door for the movers to grab. This will reduce how long it takes a moving company to clear out your entire home of possessions.

Supplies

Although a moving company can bring their own moving supplies to handle your move, you should not hesitate to invest in your own supplies. You can buy tape, moving boxes, labels, and markers so that movers do not need to use their own disposable supplies for your whole move.

Packing

When you plan a move far enough in advance, you can take your time with packing by spreading it across several weeks. You can even get help from family and friends to avoid physical overload. Just packing your belongings will cut down on how much you spend with a moving company. To maximize savings, you can put the moving boxes alongside furniture near the front entrance.

Parking

Being able to park just a few feet away from the front door is ideal for a moving company because it will reduce how much time and effort it takes to fill up the moving truck. So, before movers arrive with a moving truck, you should make sure the driveway is clear of all vehicles.

Using these methods will help you save money when hiring residential movers for part of your move.

Choosing To Move

Few things are more difficult than packing up your belongings, moving to a new place, and trying to make new friends. Unfortunately, we found ourselves in this position a few years ago after the business that I worked for started to fail. We knew that if we wanted to get out ahead of the game, we needed to quit the job, apply for new positions, and move our family to a more affordable part of the country. This blog is all about choosing to move when you know that you need to, using storage units to help you during your transition, and making the best of a bad situation.
